EU Proposes to Amend the Migration Lead Limit in Toys

Recently, The European Union has published a draft Directive to revise the lead limit in toys by amending the Annex II to Directive 2009/48/EC on the safety of toys. The proposed enforcement date is 18months after publication in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJ).

The lead limit shall be revised as below:

	Element	mg/kg in dry, brittle, powderlike or pliable toy material	mg/kg in liquid or sticky toy material	mg/kg in scrapped-off toy material
Current Limit	Lead	13.5	3.4	160
Proposed Limit	Lead	2.0	0.5	23
