Care: 2013 Annual Report on the operation of the RAPEX

RAPEX is the Rapid Alert System for non-food dangerous products, mainly used in the EU Member States and the European Commission that facilitates the rapid exchange of information between Member States and the Commission on measures taken to prevent or restrict the marketing or use of products posing a serious risk to the health and safety of consumers. Notifications generally includes notifying country, country of origin, product category, name, brand, type/number of model, description, danger, measures adopted by notifying country and provides visualization of the sample photos to consumers, so as to improve warning degree.

Overview of EU Notifications in 2013
There are 2,364 number of notifications in RAPEX 2013.

Top five notifying countries in 2013:
    —Hungary (12%)
    —Germany (11%)
    —Spain (11%)
    —Bulgaria (8%)
    —United Kingdom (6%)

Top five notified product categories in 2013:
    —25% Clothing, textiles and fashion items;
    —25% Toys;
    —9% Electrical appliances and equipment;
    —7% Motor vehicles;
    —4% Cosmetics

Notifications by country of origin of the notified product:
    — 64% China including Hong Kong;
    — 15% EU-28 and EEA countries;
    — 10% unknown;
    — 8% other;
    — 3% Turkey.

Top five notified types of risk in 2013:
    — Injuries (23%)
    — Chemical (20%)
    — Choking (14%)
    — Electric shock (12%)
    — Strangulation (9%)
