Important Updates on EU Deforestation-Free Products Regulation (EUDR)

The Council of the European Union formally adopted a targeted revision of the EU Deforestation-free Products Regulation (EUDR) on 18 December 2025. The revision aims to simplify implementation and allow adequate preparation time. Key updates are as follows:

1. Postponed Application:
The regulation will now apply to all operators from 30 December 2026. Micro and small enterprises benefit from an additional six-month cushion.
2. Refined Scope:
Reflecting their limited deforestation risk, certain printed products (such as books, newspapers, printed pictures) have been removed from the regulation's scope. These products will not be subject to EUDR due diligence obligations when placed on the EU market.
3. Simplification & Review:
The revision streamlines requirements and obliges the European Commission to present a simplification review report by 30 April 2026, assessing the regulation's impact, especially on smaller operators.

While some printed products are exempt, the regulation's core objectives remain unchanged. Stricter compliance demands for wood and derived products regarding supply chain traceability and transparency are imminent.
