The Draft of Guidance on the Application of Human Factors to Consumer Products

In February 2018, the draft of the Guidance on the Application of Human Factors to Consumer Products was published on Federal Register. This draft is a guidance, but not a legally enforceable regulation. This guidance was co-exploited by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada’ Consumer Product Safety Directorate, expounding how to apply the human factors principles into the improvement of the consumer products in the different stages of the product development process, from the product planning to the post-production evaluation. Following the advice will be beneficial for the consumer product industry stakeholders, designers and manufacturers in improving the usability and reducing the use-related incidents.
